So, now that I'm done with the car, the intent is to have it judged and achieve as high of an award as I possibly can, and then DRIVE it.
To that end, here is Friday afternoon, Sept 11th, 2009. We're loading up the car on a friend's trailer for the 325 mile drive down to Creston, IA. There, the Heartland NCRS Chapter will judge the car.

All loaded up and ready to go. Hey, even the TRAILER is red.

Tied down and ready to hit the road!

Here we are Saturday morning around 7:30 am in Creston, IA at Stalker Chevrolet. The building has been there since the early 50s. This was the site of the NCRS judging meet. The dealership was kind enough to let us use their service bay.

Here's my little red car on the judging field, with Old Glory hanging overhead.

And after many hours of inspection by talented members of NCRS, here is the result.
96.6% Top Flight.

So, this event served two purposes. First, it checked off one of the four prerequisites for the Duntov Award through NCRS. Second, it gave me a list of small details to fix on the car before campaigning the car at the regional or national level.
For perspective, to get the Duntov Award, you need a 97% or better at Regionals and at Nationals, along with the VERY difficult Performance Verification (PV) award.
So, I started out at the Chapter level, close to the 97% benchmark. I'll have to fix a fair number of small details to ensure that surpass the 97% level at regionals or nationals.
My plan at this point is to take the winter to fix those details and attend the Iowa Regional next May. Then, I'll shoot for the PC Award in Ohio next August. After that, the only box left to check is a National Top Flight award in Novi, MI in 2011.
